The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion A Haunted House Mystery Book 1 edition by Roger Hayden Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

An intriguing part of "The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion The plot still has promise of a good story. Fewer than 100 pages to this book, the first several pages being repeats of the info in Book 0, left me severely disgruntled, though. Since I got it "on sale" for free from Amazon, I can't really complain about it being overpriced. I don't, however, like being left hanging over a cliff in cases like this. It's a bad marketing plow which turns me off to getting more installments in the future.

The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion A Haunted House Mystery Book 1 edition by Roger Hayden Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I got both this book (Book 1) and the prequel (Book 0) and you definitely need to read both in order to understand the full effect of the story line. I really got interested in this story, but Book 1 was rather short and just cuts off with no type of resolution, rather than wraps up even part of the mystery. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem book 2 is available yet, so the story is far from complete. I hope Book 2 comes out soon, if it does I would get it but wish I could have had all 3 at one time to finish the story.
I would have given it 5 stars....but, once again a cliff-hanger.

I’ve read Book 0 and Book one in December of 2016. I knew that Book 0 would be a cliff-hanger just because it was labeled Book 0. I followed with Book 1….still a cliffhanger. I just recently re-read both 0 and 1 and I had to finish the series. I ordered Book 2.
I am not fond of the way authors try and hook a person in using cliff-hangers. I do not order additional books. I don’t think it’s fair, though I can understand their thoughts behind it. It would be more honest to say something like, “This is a free taste of my series” However, and this is a big however, The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion was well worth it.
All three books are well-written, exciting, a lot of twists and turns. I would not have put down Book 2, except I was too tired to read, through the night (a little spooked even). In the morning I finished. Wow. I loved The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion.
This book merely continues the unfinished story begun in Book 0. The story is promising but I believe the free downloads of Book 0 & 1 were supposed to get you hooked so you will pay for Book 2. It won't work. At this point I really don't care. I can finish the story in my own imagination. Beside, my imagination has better grammar and word usage.
First and foremost, Mr. Hayden, hire an editor and request anonymous beta readers. All three books have atrocious typos and grammar errors. There's even a place in book 1 that starts a sentence, says "change to" half way through, and starts a completely new thought. It's as if book 1 is a first editor's draft.
I may leave spoilers from here.
While the story was good and the characters well done, who ever told you to make it 3 incomplete books and charge complete prices, doesn't want to to be successful. I will never purchase another book from you without full guarantee that it's a complete book. Even a short story is fine, but writing 100 pages and just ending it is not a professional way to write novels, not at the prices you're charging. All three of these "books" should be pulled and rewritten into one cohesive and complete book. Want a prequel or spinoff, write a story about how the "curse" and "treasure" came to be in the catacombs.
You really dropped the ball on the conclusion. The PI just walks off never to be heard from again?! Was there a catacomb? Was there any form of treasure? Was Mary's baby born living? How does the cops handle the piles of ash? Does the town even survive the fallout?
Nitpicking if the city girl is going to have a weapon all the time, obviously trained to use it considering what it takes to get a legal pistol in Chicago, why have her be a damsel in distress? Either use it or lose it, it's a plot drain. These books are obviously designed to be a series, shown by your lake of care with ridiculous cliffhangers, why bother with a complete run down of the last book in the first half of the next? Fluff. Your word count is fluff.
I would have given a 3rd star, but as I listed out all the problems, I'm not sure these deserve 2.
I loved the first book, and this one kept me on the edge just as the first. Someone still needs to do some editing, but the story is so riveting, I can look past that. So, when's the final coming out??? I didn't see where it said, just "coming soon."

CLIFFHANGER ENDING Both this, Book 1, and Book 0 (the prequel) end with unresolved endings. At the time this review was posted, as well as this edit, Book 0 is a free download at , so its cliffhanger ending may not be so important. Here is a link to Book 0 The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion A Haunted House Mystery- Book 0

Quick Overview

This, Book 1 but the second in the series, continues where Book 0 left off. Other than to note that this brings us to present-day Redwood, Indiana, I'm not going to elaborate further, due to the probability that I will give a spoiler.

Bottom Line

I am quite aggravated, as this writing is quite excellent but I am now left hanging. Because of this cliffhanger ending, I’m only rating this at four stars. But, I can readily understand why others would rate if five stars. Meanwhile, if this writer doesn't get some more installments out soon I am going to have a conniption fit. What I fear most, though, is that I will lose interest by the time the next segment arrives on .

Comments regarding your opinion of this book or of my review, whether favorable or unfavorable, are always welcome. If you buy the book based on my review and become disappointed, especially, I do want to know that and I want to understand how I can improve as a book reviewer. Just please be polite.
